continue exciting five four games good last opportunity playing saw start wild winning year
It will be good to start playing at home. We have an opportunity to get off to a very good start this season. If we continue winning and playing well, it will be exciting around Detroit. Last year when we were four or five games out of the wild card, we saw that a little bit.
aspect biggest game improve obviously ready team
The biggest part is to come out here and try to improve myself in every aspect of the game and try to get myself ready for the season. Obviously I want to come in here and make the team and we'll just go from there.
alone care demand everywhere forward game jim looking opportunity playing proven record respect rookie track won
I'm looking forward to the opportunity to be playing for Jim Leyland. Just his track record alone makes him demand respect from the start. He's a proven leader, and he's won everywhere he went. He doesn't care if you are a rookie or a 15- or 20-year vet. You play the game hard, and you won't have any problems.
accustomed good hit home pitches strange trying
It's strange for me, power-wise. It's not something I'm accustomed to. I'm not going up trying to hit home runs. I'm just trying to get good pitches to hit and they're going out of the park. It's surprising.
remind
Sometimes I had to remind him I was just his boy, his son, and not some big-leaguer, not anything special.
april balls explain flying special
I'm not going to lie, April was a special month. I can't explain it. I don't know why, all of a sudden, balls were flying out of the ballpark.
dreams shows wildest
I didn't think in my wildest dreams I'd be on any of these shows or be doing any of this like I am. I mean, it's fun, but it's kind of overwhelming and kind of shocking.
instant
It's instant feedback. You can see things right away.
striking
I'm striking out way too much. I'm not making any adjustments, either.
anyway ballgame control everyday hard help improve playing possible team trying win
I can control going out and playing hard everyday and trying to improve myself, and Carlos is the same way. I can't control what Carlos does. If we're in a ballgame and he's there, I want to try to help him anyway possible and try to help the team win and I know it's the same way with him.
tells
I just think that if we play the way he tells us to play, we'll win.
expect opening playing
It was my first opening day actually playing and it was exciting. I didn't expect anything of that magnitude, but it's something special.
actions against definitely speak wants whether
I feel like my actions speak for themselves, whether I play well against them or not. But there is a part of me that definitely wants to play well against them.
along expect hits july month special
July was a special month -- those don't come along all the time. You can't expect 40 hits a month the whole season, as much as you'd like to see it happen.
