based desire expressed guy past
I don't have any steadfast rule. I think it's more of a generality. I think in Mike's case, he's a guy who expressed a desire to have a multiyear deal. Based upon his past performance, we were open-minded to it.
based deals public realize start
You have to realize that if you start making deals just based on public opinion, you're going to be in a lot of trouble.
afford based decision games people popularity understand
People don't come to your games to see your manager. I can understand why some people will feel that this was based on Alan's popularity here. But really, we could not afford to make this decision based on that, because we need to right this ship.
brings enjoyed experience nobody
It brings back memories. Nobody enjoyed the experience of what we had to do.
good guy quality win
To me, not only is he a good player, but he's a quality person. He's a guy you win championships with.
starting
We like Nate Robertson. We think he's a starting pitcher.
baseball bring decision game managers name recent top
The decision to name one of the top managers in the game of baseball in recent time, to bring him back to this organization, is a very big day for our franchise.

We're extremely pleased to have a person of his makeup and his ability to bolster the bullpen.

We're still in this position where we haven't made a lot of decisions yet.
kind offensive one-of-a-kind
David Ortiz is an icon. He is one of a kind. But we'll do our best job to replace the offensive aspect, however we can.
thinking community
I don't think you ever replace David Ortiz with what he brings to an organization or to a community.
great impressed jim knowledge knows players somebody takes wants
I don't think it takes long for somebody to be impressed with Jim Leyland and his knowledge of the game. He knows what he wants to accomplish, and he's done it so many times. He's a great communicator. The players like him.
charge hop knows passion
He's got that hop in his step, the passion back. I think everyone knows who's in charge at this point.
ahead create good ideally kenny last needed pitchers season
Ideally we'd like to still have Kenny in the organization. He had a good season last year. Other pitchers are ahead of him at this point. We needed to create a roster spot.
