Eugene T. Chizikis an American football coach and former player. He was named defensive coordinator at North Carolina in January 2015. He was the head coach of the Auburn football team from 2009 until the end of the 2012 season. Chizik's 2010 Auburn Tigers football team completed a 14–0 season with a victory over Oregon in the BCS National Championship Game. I think he one-upped me this year. It's really tremendous. I can't think of a more deserving guy, obviously, and he's not just a great football coach but a great man. I'm just really excited to be able to pass the torch to him because he's just that deserving.

We never, ever stop working. When we get down to the red zone, it's not easy for people to score. You never see anybody get rattled when things aren't going good, and there was a period of time (against Texas Tech) when things weren't going good. You never hear anybody say anything on the sideline. They understand what they have to do. We regroup, we adjust and we go back out there and play.

What we're really pleased with is that they played hard. We tried to execute our defense, but we played a lot of base defense. Obviously, we have a lot of work to do on some things. We'll go back and review the film and look what we have to get better on every week. Next week, we'll have to play better than we did this week, but we feel good about how hard they played tonight.

What separates him from a lot of the good ones, and why he's a great one, is he's got the mental part of the game as well as anyone I've ever been around. He does a great job of making sure everybody is in line.

What I've found is that a lot of times, if a guy is that good that you're spying on him, he's probably better than your spy guy. We've got to have 11 guys spying on him.

The thing that I'm the most proud of is that we never stopped working. We were patient. We never saw anybody get rattled.

You've got to stop the run, be physical and then be solid in your coverage issues. You can't let a team that throws it 70 times a game make you into a finesse team. You have to be physical.

I just know what an awesome feeling it is for him. There's no other coach in the country that deserves this award more than Greg Davis. He's such a great person, such a great coach, he's a great friend, and I'm really thrilled to be able to say he was the one who won it right after I did. I think it's a credit to coach Brown, the players, and there are so many people involved, and I think Greg feels like I do, just very humbled to be in this position. It couldn't happen to a better guy.
