expensive fence
Make not a fence more expensive or more important than the thing that is fenced
slander spoken three
Slander slays three persons: the speaker, the spoken to, and the spoken of
dignity lightly raises rank takes
He who takes his rank lightly raises his own dignity
duck eat fear hide rather vegetables
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide
friend guilty public puts shame
He who puts a friend to public shame is as guilty as a murderer
art judge neighbor thou thy until
Judge not thy neighbor until thou art come into his place
founded greatest opinions prejudice sustained violence
Opinions founded on prejudice are always sustained with the greatest violence
bravest enemies enemy friend turns
Who is the bravest hero? He who turns his enemy into a friend
