Although I have sympathy for Ricky I cannot accept his move towards the on-field umpires as they made a move towards resuming play. He did not ask for the third umpire to be consulted but when he made that move and spoke to the officials I believe his involvement played a part in prompting the referral.

While it is understood that there was substantial provocation from a section of the Perth crowd, there is a standard required and a player needs to keep his emotions under some control.

The player admitted what he had done was wrong and I took this, together with his previously exemplary conduct, into account. However, it is important to show that dissent of any sort at an umpire's decision is unacceptable and the player's punishment for his actions illustrates that fact.
