The time to prepare isn't after you have been given the opportunity. It's long before that opportunity arises. Once the opportunity arrives, it's too late to prepare.
Passion is temporary. It doesn't last long. Love is enduring. And that's the important thing. If we all had love in our lives to the degree that we should, it would be much happier.
The person who is afraid to risk failure seldom has to face success. I expected my players to make mistakes, as long as they were mistakes of commission. A mistake of commission happens when you are doing what should be done but don't get the results you want.
We almost have to force or drive ourselves to work hard if we are to reach our potential. If we don't enjoy what we do, we won't be able to push as hard as we need to push for as long as we need to push to achieve our best. However, if we enjoy what we do and if we're enthusiastic about it, we'll do it better and come closer to becoming the best we can be.
As long as you try your best, you are never a failure. That is, unless you blame others.
I would never have a player come close to taking that many shots in a game. I don't ever recall seeing a player who could do so much with a basketball, but he never played on a championship team.
It doesn't make any difference what they go on to, it's a great feeling to see them doing well. I'm just as proud of the ministers and the doctors and the attorneys and the businessmen n every one of 'em.
Failure is never fatal. But failure to change can and might be.
You can do more good by being good than any other way.
Love is the most important thing in the world. Hate, we should remove from the dictionary.
I met Tiger Woods when he was younger. He's amazing - obviously technically, but his mental approach, too. He's really something.
If I am through learning, I am through.
Somebody asked me - you know, how come it took you so long to win a national championship? And I said, 'I'm a slow learner; but you notice when I learn something, I have it down pretty good.'
I don't think I was a fine game coach. I'm trying to be honest. I think I was a good practice coach.
