Kate brought a real grounding to the character, as well as a solid intelligence. Caroline is very compassionate, but also very straightforward and very strong, and I saw all that in Kate when I first met her and realized I was talking to someone who's wise beyond her 25 years. I also think that Kate's natural effervescence was a great counterbalance to what could easily in someone else's hands have become overly introspective.
In the early 1980s when the British government decided to purchase the Trident nuclear weapons system, Britain faced a perceived threat from the nuclear-armed Soviet Union.
(Goldie) told her to put on some weight, ... eating practically nothing.
I felt horrible because I thought I was letting the director and the studio down,
I love when I can work with a director who demands me to go to places that I know I can go. I've gotten that opportunity twice. Ian is an amazing actor's director, who loves working with actors. It's so much fun, and Cameron was like that too.
I think Galliano is one of the most thrilling designers. He uses lots of color. I really enjoy his clothes.
Sometimes I'll be walking down the street and I'll hear some American and I'll just go, 'Of course they hate us, of course they can't stand us. Love is scary, like anything else, whether you're falling in love, whether you're discovering love in something else...if you're really going to jump off the cliff, when you meet somebody that you love you're going to jump off that cliff, you've got to give them everything. And when you have a kid, it's on a much greater level.
I have a big, flamboyant, open personality, which I think is why people may be saying these nice things about me.
I'm not afraid of heights. I rock climb. I can repel off the side of a building.
A lot of my life involves sitting and having make-up put on; whether it's on a movie set or for a photo shoot. When you're wearing that kind of make-up all the time your skin does get all this sensitivity, so it's important that you make sure you have make-up that is easy on your skin and not too harsh for it.
I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say my mom. Apart from the fact that she's my mother, she's a brilliant comedian and a force as a producer. She paved the way for women to produce and star in their own films, and to balance that with being the matriarch of our family is really inspiring.
