I think there's a part of him that cares. He's always been one of the top defensemen and he's always played so well, that I think you just take him for granted because he's so dependable and so good. But, yeah, I think more people should know about him.
Pretty similar to 1999 and 2000, very similar.
It's ancient history. It is what it is. It's been two years since that series. We've been looking forward to just the chance to get back in the playoffs and kind of put something together that we think could be fun and rewarding for everybody.
I'm sure he's looking forward to that responsibility, that competition. He feels he's done enough in the regular season, but great players are remembered by how they do in the playoffs.
There's a little excitement around here right now. We feel like we have a great opportunity. You can put it on paper or talk about it all you want, but you've still got to go out and get it done.
J.R.'s had a fabulous career. He's put up some great numbers. He had a great start to his career, but mine was slower. He's always been a great player.
Even with the way the last season went, I still love this game -- maybe even more than I did when I first broke into the NHL,
I tried to stress making simple plays, not doing more than we have all year. That's the identity to our team.
The calls were made because we were out of position. We were chasing the puck all day long and that's not a recipe for success.
You can't complain about it for us. I didn't think we'd be in that many shootouts. It's been really exciting for the players and the fans. I don't think anybody really knew how good it would be.
Whether its three, four or five seasons that I have left to play, I'm committed to making them great ones.
We're still having squeaky-type games but we've pulled them out in the end. It's been tough to score goals, especially when you're playing on the road but we were pretty opportunistic tonight.
When we have good puck possession, we're close to one another and it's all short passes and puck support, and you work your way up the ice.
We need to address some things that will get us ready for Monday. That's obviously a must-win for us now, so we have to get our game going. That's a great team over there and we better get better soon.
