close expect gap lose recognized step
The world has recognized that we are competitive. It used to be, how much are we going to lose by? Then we'd try to close that gap during the game. Now, when we step on the world stage, we expect to win.
smart
It wouldn't have been smart for him to be here today. He's day-to-day.
everybody good saw today yesterday
I told him yesterday he was going to have a very long career. He's very good. Today everybody saw how good he is.

He can play first, second, third or the outfield.
good saw
He's going to have a very long career; he's going to be very good, and today, you saw how good he is. For him, it's a day he'll never forget.
base chance decision given hit respect
I think on any given day, you'll get a base hit on that. The way he was pitching, I thought the decision was to show him respect and give him a chance to do something special.
difference heads instead leave losing winning
The difference between winning and losing today, is that we can now leave with our heads up instead of down.
everybody
I just want everybody to get situated on Monday.
base hitters second tough
They're very experienced hitters that usually make adjustments in their second at-bat. The way he got them out, that's when I thought it would be very tough for them to get a base hit today.
guy
I just want to see some things. You can tell a lot about a guy in two innings.
competition exciting guys playing together
These guys are used to playing together. This is not their first international competition. They're not just getting together and playing (like the USA). They've been doing this for years. It's kind of exciting to see what's going to happen.
bases chance double field game good helped hold job looking ourselves pitchers plays though
Our pitchers did a good job today. If we make those double plays, we're looking at a 2-0 game. And we had one chance ourselves to do something with the bases loaded. We made some plays in the field as the game went on that helped our pitchers hold them down. Overall, even though we didn't score, there were a lot of things that were encouraging.
balls bounce fence
We'll want to get a feel for how balls bounce off the fence and get used to the field.
batter double
We were going to give him one more batter to try to get the double play.
