Roger Bruce Chaffee,, was an American naval officer and aviator, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, and NASA astronaut in the Apollo program. Chaffee was selected to be an astronaut along with 13 other pilots as a part of NASA Astronaut Group 3. In 1967, Chaffee perished in a fire along with fellow astronauts Virgil "Gus" Grissom and Edward H.
