Obviously, you want to win the pole. There's pride on the line. They beat us here last year and we don't want to give up anything to them.

A driver needs complete trust in his crew chief, and I certainly have that with Dan,

cars decided front good jump next sideways start swung wide
I got a real good jump at the start and I decided to go around the outside, ... The next thing I knew, there were cars sideways in front of me. I swung wide and didn't get touched. We were lucky.
gotten start three tires tried wide
Tried to go wide at the start and just got lucky. My tires were going at the end, if there had been three more laps, Lou probably would have gotten by me.
appreciate black car clean decent easier fairly figured front gap good lap letting paul qualify quick quite result seat session sitting start tires
We got out in the session just a little late. When I was going to start my first quick lap I was black flagged. We just had one lap to qualify and we had a fairly decent run. I had enough of a gap between myself and the car in front to get a clean lap. The tires weren't quite up to pressure, but it's a pretty good result for Pontiac and I appreciate Paul letting me qualify. Sitting in Paul's and Jan's seat isn't the most comfortable thing for me, so we figured it's easier for me to get out mid-race than for me to get in.
decent finally guys hard late quick result session start thank time
We started our session a little late and when we finally got out there, we got 'black-flagged' just before I was going to start my quick lap, ... Our guys have been working hard and that's a decent result for my first time out. I just want to thank Paul.
