Going through this is a lot of adversity -- let's be honest, there is a little bit of pressure because we haven't been winning -- and if we can get through this, we'll be better for it, ... It's not an ideal situation but now we realize it's tough to win and we have to be ready every night. We have to dig deep and play determined and play desperate.
It's getting used to the speed, and in a practice atmosphere like that the passes are harder, the guys are stronger, so getting used to it is going to take a little bit of time. I definitely see a bit of improvement as I go on out there, It's going to help me, definitely, when I come here.
It's a little bit overwhelming seeing this kind of reaction to my arrival, but I guess I'm prepared for it, ... I heard that there was a lot of excitement in the city. I heard how Pittsburgh was a great sports town.
You never expect a situation like that so when it comes, you just have to have confidence in each other, and I think that's what was going through our minds. I think we were confident, and we knew we did a good job the last couple games. It was just a matter of doing it for a little bit longer.
I want to play as soon as possible, ... You want to play but I don't pick and choose. It's not my job.
It's so amazing, it's hard to believe, ... I was just fortunate to get that shot. I got lucky with that shot.
Everything clicked. Everything was working together, and we did all the little things. We played with a lot of confidence.
This is what I'm here to do and I'm very excited, ... It's been busy, busier than normal with the lottery and the draft, so it's going to be nice to get into a routine and get on the ice every day. That's the fun part.
Points don't always tell the story, but it went well definitely, ... I'm being challenged to think faster and be more creative, especially with guys like this.
I'm not worried about coming in here and putting the pressure on myself to get four points every night and carry the team because I'm not going to do that,
Hockey's lost a great player and a great person. I don't think it will change anything for me, but this happening makes a lot of the younger guys realize what he meant to the team and the city. It makes you want to do things for the team and the city that he did, because the city has been unbelievable to us. It's just treated us great. We've got great fans here.
I don't feel like I'm where I need to be. For the most part, I was all right out there. I think I have some more energy I need to get.
He's been awesome. I think especially for the younger guys, it's been great having him show us the way. He's a great leader. We really hope he comes back. I think he's meant a lot to us, and he's been playing great hockey, too. So, we definitely hope to see him back. I'll try to talk to him and convince him.
He's been a positive ever since he got here. He had a couple nice hits the last couple games. He's not the biggest guy, but he plays big and he has a big heart. That's important on any team and he's got to keep doing that. He's been great for us.
