The idea is to try to get relationships developed because it's my thought that when an athletic director has to hire a major coach, he doesn't have time to really start meeting people. There's the statement made that ADs hire people they know. Well, it's true. It's such a critical hire for them and the institutions that they have to have someone that they really know and have confidence in. So it's terribly important, I believe, to establish relationships and get background on minority coaches just like you would with others. So we took some extra effort to make sure that occurs.

Every year we have farmers who visit a local farm store and are informed that their private pesticide applicators license has expired and they need a new license before they can purchase any of these products.

ABC is going to want to keep us from going to the open marketplace, but we're going to be very interested in going there if ABC doesn't make a preemptive offer. We've never had the opportunity to test it on the open marketplace.

It's absurd to say getting to the Sweet 16 equates to winning a national title. There's no question Duke's record of the past 15 years is impressive, but how many national championships have they won? Three doesn't equal 10.

Property taxes are too high because valuations are too high. I would support a tax shift, with an increase of sales and income taxes. It will not be a popular idea, but the burden of property taxes is too high on farm and ranch land.

The Pac-10 looks forward to participating in the Hawaii Bowl, ... Hawaii is a wonderful destination for our student-athletes and our fans and Hawaii has an affinity with the West Coast that makes this a great fit for the Pac-10.
