Trevor Hohns
Trevor Victor Hohnsis a former Queensland and Australian cricketer who played in seven Tests in 1989 where debuted at the age of 34. Hohns's legspin was largely unheralded during the 1989 Ashes series, which among his wickets included deceiving England's Ian Botham in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, who was bowled for a duck after missing a charging hoick. Hohns also was a handy late-order batsman, often batting as high as number six for Queensland in Sheffield Shield cricket...
concern happens hundred moment obviously thrown
Obviously it's a concern to him, it's a concern to everybody, but he's not the only one at the moment either. It just so happens that Matthew's stats keep getting thrown up. That he hasn't scored a hundred in so many Tests.
australian chance daniel experience good team test time
It will be a good test for Daniel and we think it is the right time to give him some experience and a chance to be a part of the Australian team environment.
bowling brad count cricket decision easy fair fast given glenn himself looking position quartet scores squad test together unlucky
Brad Hodge can count himself unlucky not to be included. It is fair to say that the (selectors) were looking for Brad to put together some really big scores in (domestic first-class) cricket to consolidate his position in the test squad but unfortunately that hasn't happened. The decision on the make-up of the fast bowling quartet was not an easy one, given that we are without Glenn McGrath for this series.
batting fill opened order positions various
He can fill various positions in the batting order as we've seen. He's opened for Queensland, and he can bat in the middle.
assisted australian certainly challenges despite enjoyed hope obvious role small
Despite its obvious challenges, I have certainly enjoyed the role and can only hope that my contribution has in some small way assisted Australian cricket.
ashes bowling judgment late
It's not too late (for Gillespie to be selected). He's only 30. It's up to him. He's got to be bowling how he was before the Ashes and we've got to make a judgment on that.
number slot team time
Martyn has had some time out of the team and we feel this is the right time to slot him back in at number four.
fit playing seriously
Now that he is fit and playing again, he is going to be seriously considered.
consider fringe left logical peak player
He's been a fringe player for a long time. We consider that he's probably at his peak right now. He was the logical replacement for Damien once we left a batsman out of the squad.
batting bill bowl field fits gives hopes include looking open players
We are looking to include players who can bat, bowl and field and Hopes fits that bill perfectly. He gives us another all-round option, and can open the batting if required.
bowlers choose fifth four looks offer pitch providing
We can choose to play two spinners if the pitch looks like it will offer them something, or we can play four bowlers with Watson providing a fifth option,
adequately believe both cover depth glenn necessary
We believe we have the necessary depth to adequately cover for both Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee,
basically count cricket good runs
What he's done over here (in Pakistan) didn't count for too much. It was good for him to get over here and play some cricket basically and get some runs under the belt.
account adequate believe cover fact manage squad taken tests three tight virtually
We've taken into account the fact that three Tests are virtually back-to-back and we believe we've got adequate cover in this squad to manage that tight schedule.
