It was a good sign to play a guy where I had to lunge a lot and jump around, ... It was 2 1/2 hours. I felt pretty good.
It's disappointing to lose, ... But the first thing you have to assess is why did you lose. I just lost to a guy that's better. There's only so long you can deny it. He's the best I've ever played against.
Over the last 20 years, I've come full circle, ... To be here at an age where I can take in that sort of love and be at an age where I can embrace it is a tremendous feeling.
There's a sense of urgency on every point, on every shot. It's an incredible challenge. I certainly didn't have enough today.
I am always on the edge. I don't know when, but it can happen quickly. I get motivated with the challenge. This is what I do, and I have not decided to stop doing that. But it is getting more difficult on the body, it is getting more difficult on the mind.
Anything you try to do, he potentially has an answer for, ... He plays the game in a way I haven't seen before. I mean, he's the only guy where you hold serve for 1-0, and you're thinking, 'All right ... good (laughter).' That's how it is. You've always got that sense of urgency. It's an incredible challenge.
If I was coaching him, I'd fine him $100 every time he hit a groundstroke, ... In his most difficult moments, he was more awkward than I anticipated.
the match of my life on the day of my life.
It's been a tough road but a great road,
Having a family was something I always dreamed about and looked forward to, certainly to find somebody that you want to have a family with,
means as much to me as doing it in the finals.
It's not ideal to have three five-setters going into a final, ... but I felt pretty decent out there in the fifth set. I stepped it up when I needed to. It's not ideal but it's a great problem to have. I'd sign up for the chance to be in the finals anytime. And I might just surprise you. Mentally, just being out there will take care of that. Physically, I'll be able to make someone earn it.
Listen, James is an easy guy to like, and he's an easy guy to root for, ... If he's getting the better of me, if we happen to play, you know I couldn't wish it for a better person. He deserves support. I just hope it will be a great standard match.
I settled down on my service games and my ground strokes, put enough pressure on him to get that break.
