We didn't tell anybody until March of 2002 ? that's when the April National Geographic was released with the first article about the site.

It was the height of the dry season and we set off early in the morning on what was supposed to be a 3-hour drive followed by a 6-kilometer walk. The drive itself eventually became 12-1/2 hours because we had to cut our way through the jungle and create a whole new road to where we thought we were going.

We found two limes and split them between the six of us. Yum.

We made a series of bad decisions, one after another after another ? and not getting food and water when it was right there was the last one. The first one was not turning back at the end of the first day.
