Obviously we would like to see those statistics higher. But this is a process that the NCAA member institutions are going through to change behavior and essentially ensure the student athletes, coaches and everyone involved in collegiate athletics understands that academic achievement and academic performance is just as important as athletic performance.

Certainly, the data is trending in the right direction. The increases for all African-American student athletes were between 15 and 18 percent, and that's good, but that doesn't mean the job's over. There's room for improvement, and we hope that institutions are able to continue that trend working upward.

This (the online offerings) was one of the issues we knew about, but we felt there would be appeals. ... Do you take everything off now and then perhaps reinstate it, or do you wait and make the change when the policy becomes effective? We felt the best decision was to wait until there was resolution.
