It happened there. Right now, he's OK to stay out there and try and help the U.S. team obviously in a limited way now.
blame brian credit deals gm gotten seeing stay tampa tired title work
I don't know if Brian will stay or leave, but I do know he's gotten awfully tired of seeing Tampa get credit for all the deals that work out and him getting the blame for all the ones that don't. It's like he's the GM in title only.
ahead asked guys knew option page question rather stay year
I knew (the option year of his contract) would be the first question you guys asked him. So I wanted to stay ahead of it and get on the same page with him, rather than play catch-up.
basically boss continue everybody good interested job move nice provides staying support system talked time tremendous valuable
Mel told me that he'd always be interested in staying around. I talked to the Boss about it. He thought it was a good idea. Mel thought it was a good idea. Everybody basically felt: Let's continue the relationship. Mel did a tremendous job here for a long time and provides a lot of valuable insight. So it's nice to have him as part of the support system as we move forward.
baseball competition contracts decide dictate happens healthy hopefully league major performance rotation stays
Hopefully everyone stays healthy and their performance will dictate what happens from there. Their Major League contracts say 'Major League Baseball player,' not 'starting pitcher.' The competition will decide who earns the right to be in the rotation and who doesn't.
created environment few great hours stay
I know Hideki wanted to stay and we wanted to keep him, and that created a great environment for us to get it done. Thankfully, we got it done with a few hours to spare.
himself last onto pushed radar screen year
He's someone that is getting better every year as a prospect. He pushed himself onto our radar screen last year.
burned
I've been burned before. But I haven't been burned this year.
bothering small
I could see it was bothering him when he was throwing. Hopefully, it's nothing more than a small episode.
bruise
He has a bruise at the very least. He's playing. He's fine.
knows talked
He knows how we feel. I've talked to (Hendricks).
asset baseball behind experience game managerial plate quality
He's a real quality baseball man. He's been a big asset for us this year. I know he hasn't had any managerial experience but he's managed the game behind the plate for so many years that I think it makes up for a lot.
happened ourselves position winning year
All we've done is put ourselves in the same position we've been in before, winning a world championship. This year just happened to be a little tougher.
decides interested otherwise report retired
Nothing to report on him, he is retired and he will let us know if he decides otherwise -- if he is interested in us, of course.
