We believe it's a misuse of the mental health statutes and a diversion of limited treatment resources. We've expressed this view through the local media and in testimony before legislative committees. We've also joined a statewide coalition of advocacy groups organized to oppose the proposal. We intend to monitor this issue closely and to play an active role in the ongoing public dialogue on this topic.

What we're finding is that adolescents actually use a different part of their brain than adults do, in particular when responding to things with emotional content. They are much more likely to use the more primitive parts of their brain.
