I don't think there was any overall Reich policy to kill the Jews. If there was, they would have been killed and there would not be now so many millions of survivors. And believe me, I am glad for every survivor that there was.

In my view, freedom of speech means the freedom to say things to other people that they don't want to hear. And if that causes offense to them, then that's partly their problem and partly mine. Freedom of speech is the right to be wrong, basically. Sometimes I'm wrong.

Smoking is just a prop or wardrobe that helps identify a character as a bad guy. They have to do whatever they can to make the audience feel that this is a despicable person who is fighting or challenging the hero.

Steadily, smoking has gotten to be known to be such a killer. It makes it difficult to put your lead character with a cigarette in his mouth.
