Just being around the players and coaches; the camaraderie of the game; to see them learn and get better, improve all the time; and being around the coaches and coaching football, which is what I do best. Probably the most fun is to see them get better as a football team and as individuals.
I feel sorry for the guy. It's like he's coaching in the Pac-10 with 50 scholarships instead of 85.
Al is a great technician of secondary play. He is as good as there is at coaching cornerbacks. He was with me for two years at Oregon State and then at the San Francisco 49ers. He understands what it takes to be successful in the secondary. On top of that, he is a great recruiter.
I just thought it was an opportunity for me to come back, give back and get back to coaching college football ... my first love.
It's not about the money, it's about coaching ? I'm a coach. It's all I've done all my life. Making me sit out last year made it appreciate it even more.
I think there's a good chance. This interests me.
Tim is very smart. He understands the game and has a good arm. He does a lot of the things I like to do offensively. How good is he going to be? I don't know. We'll have to coach him up and find out.
We want to compete for conference championships and go to bowl games.
There are times during the year where you're so beat up, even with the practice guys that you have, that you can't even practice,
I looked in these guys' eyes and they are ready to go and get it done.
If I'm going to do something, I'm going to do it in the next few days.
If we're going to throw the ball and be consistent, we've got to be able to throw it, we've got to be able to catch it and we can't throw interceptions. Those are the things that happened to us in the second half. I thought the first half was a different story.
If we can get that done, then a lot of things will happen. I don't know what it's going to cost, but obviously we're going to have to do that.
He'll be back to play next year, but obviously he's out for Saturday.
