Prior to coming to Dalton, Derek was an assistant athletic director at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. He spent most of his time at Stetson as the head men's basketball coach, where he took over the program in 2000 at the age of 29, which made him the youngest division I head coach in the country, and finished his career...

I was proud of the way we met physicality with physicality tonight. Karl Hollingsworth was fantastic and needs to play like that every time. Lipscomb is playing extremely well right now and we were just a couple of plays away from winning this game.

Our defense was really the story for us tonight. Our offense played great, but it was the play at the other end that kept us in the game.

You can say that maybe his first two years he got the short end of the stick playing wise. But never once did he complain. Never once did he stop working. And guys like that you tend to have confidence they can step up.

We played very well during a prolonged stretch in the second half. That was the difference for us. It was a close game, and that run gave us some breathing room.

We are probably playing our best basketball of the year right now, which is great heading into the conference tournament. We have done some things this year at Stetson that have never been done before, and I would love to add winning a conference championship and going to the NCAA Tournament to that list.
