Derek Waughcame to Dalton State in 2012 as athletic director to start up the school's first four-year intercollegiate athletic program. Prior to coming to Dalton, Derek was an assistant athletic director at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. He spent most of his time at Stetson as the head men's basketball coach, where he took over the program in 2000 at the age of 29, which made him the youngest division I head coach in the country, and finished his career...

If you leave them open, and they're on, they're really gonna burn you. They end up making 11 threes out of 24 attempts. It's hard to beat 'em when they do that.

We played very well during a prolonged stretch in the second half. That was the difference for us. It was a close game, and that run gave us some breathing room.

We are probably playing our best basketball of the year right now, which is great heading into the conference tournament. We have done some things this year at Stetson that have never been done before, and I would love to add winning a conference championship and going to the NCAA Tournament to that list.
