Dom Starsiais an American lacrosse coach. He is the former head coach of the University of Virginia men's lacrosse program, with whom he has won four NCAA national championships, in 1999, 2003, 2006, and 2011. I wanted to make sure the tournament was going to happen; otherwise, then we're really in a bind. I think this is the only logical choice there is. I don't think there's any qualms with the format.

There is still a lot of work to be done and decisions to be made at the defensive end of the field. There are a number of new, interesting and determined candidates that will fill important roles.

We seemed to be wired so tightly in the first quarter. I think with all the subplots that were going on, I don't think we could think straight. Them jumping up on us a little bit actually slapped us a little bit and gave us a chance to catch our breath and get our feet back on the ground. We just played smarter after the first quarter.

We've had some inquiries from kids, but to be perfectly honest, we've told everybody to just take a deep breath here.

We want to get the ball back, so they can't control the pace of play. If we can play at a little faster speed, I think that will play to our advantage.

We're older and wiser. Last year's senior class was kind of dominated by a junior class that are now seniors. We have a level of experience and we have an interesting mix here. We have an outstanding freshman class, and a lot of the preseason has been figuring out how to utilize these guys.

There is nothing you can be doing in lacrosse on your own in the fall that would be better for you than going to football or soccer practice every day. You can go bang a ball against a wall all you want, but how do you become a better team player? By playing other team sports.

When you watch Canadian kids [Box Lacrosse Players] score, when you see their skill level around the cage, you wonder to yourself, 'Jeez, are we teaching kids [in the U.S.] the wrong things?

In these early games you're focused on your performance. Just coming out and playing hard. There's not a lot you can do in terms of preparing and in terms of scouting.

The goals for Virginia lacrosse don't change a lot from year to year. We look at the lineup, start every year on Sept. 1 with the realistic goal to play at the end of the season, the very last game. This team has the talent to be able to do that.

We haven't played perfectly, and I wouldn't expect that we would. I think we're anxious -- ready may be a stretch -- but anxious and probably as ready as we can be.
