When we work for Christ out of obligation, it feels like work. But when we truly love Christ, our work is a manifestation of that love, and it feels like love.
The best things in life are gifts from the One who steadfastly loves us. But an important question to ask ourselves is this: are we in love with God or just His stuff?
The Bible teaches that true joy is formed in the midst of the difficult seasons of life.
I love being in the ocean. I love the unpredictability of it- size of wave, animals you see, etc.
True faith manifests itself through our actions.
It's incredibly arrogant to pick and choose which incomprehensible truths we embrace. No one wants to ditch God's plan of redemption [the cross], even though it doesn't make sense to us. Neither should we erase God's revealed plan of punishment because it doesn't sit well with us. As soon as we do this, we are putting God's actions in submission to our own reasoning, which is a ridiculous thing for clay to do.
We have to learn how to control our minds. We have to learn self-control.
Yes, it is God who works in you. And, yes, there is work for you to do. Yes, the Spirit empowers you to do the work. And, yes, you do the work.
God doesn’t call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him.
Sometimes we shrink from leadership because our pride makes us afraid of failure. That's not humility.
In China I told pastors about how, in the West, we have these church buildings and how we go to services each week that last an hour or so. I told them how if we don't like the music or the message then we can go to different buildings and services... They all broke out into laughter. They thought I was the funniest guy they had ever seen.
Parents are supposed to instruct their kids. It doesn't mean they necessarily have that gift of teaching.
You've got to do some work now. Make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue. Virtue is about moral excellence.
When loving Him becomes obligation, one of the many things we have to do, we end up focusing even more on ourselves.
