based complete conscious diaries form journals keeping matter raw trying vulnerable
I remember keeping a lot of journals and diaries and trying to form a complete thought just based off of those immediate, raw feelings. If anything, I was conscious about how I just always wanted to be as honest as possible, no matter how vulnerable it would make me seem.
people
People just decided I was an R&B artist because I'm black.
area born columbia connected elementary family felt line moved safe suburban
I was born technically in D.C., and then my family moved to the Columbia area when I was in elementary school. It was right on the line between Clarksville and Columbia in Howard County. I remember it being just like a peaceful, safe atmosphere. I always felt connected to the woods and that whole suburban feel.
matching super vibe
When I was in New York, the whole vibe was really just not matching with me. I was kind of super depressed in New York. It just had this vibe of 'Get out,' you know? I would try to get out, and we'd look back and just see the city and feel like, 'Oh, I have to go back to prison again.'
almost
My live show is almost like a meditation. An emotional apex - that's what I want it to feel like.
knew
I knew that the artists that I loved the most had something about them that was very unfiltered and very rough.
artists people pop positive
People had an idea of what R&B artists or pop artists usually say, which was like, 'Talk about sex, talk about partying, and be positive; don't be too much of a downer.'
blue cost couple dumb goal line plays twice within
I think we made a couple of dumb plays that cost us. We were within a goal twice and we gambled a couple of times on the blue line and it cost us big time.
It got into my blood, ... It got into my system.
against chances finish good great hard hockey looking scoring trouble
We had a lot of good scoring chances in the first half. Then they went up 5-2 and it's pretty hard to come back against that team. I was looking for a great finish to the hockey game, but we got into trouble and they capitalized.
gave scoring
We had a lot of breakdowns and gave them a lot of scoring chances.
gas hard nights played ran third
I think they ran out of gas in the third period. They played back-to-back nights and we played really hard in the third period. We were really disappointed with our first two periods.
both competing great guys habits handled hard playoffs practice quit reason six starts sure weight wish won work
I?m sure both of those guys wish they were going to the playoffs and I?m sure they?re disappointed. But I think it?s great for our guys to see how they have handled this. There?s no quit in them. They still are working hard and competing hard, and I think that?s a big reason why we won those six in a row. It starts in practice and in the weight room, and their work habits there are obvious.
stand
When something?s not working, you have to try different things. You can?t just stand pat.
