basically became dad father figure filled life man played situation thrive time together
It was great. We had already played together for a long time and to get him into a situation where he could thrive and become a man was important. He didn't have a father figure in his life at that time and my dad filled that role. We basically became brothers.

colors everywhere missed people telling wearing wish
It was amazing. People everywhere would see us wearing our colors and come up telling us how much they missed home. Everyone wanted to talk, to wish us well.
ball foul hands shoot shot surprised threw throw
I was surprised because he pump-faked more than I thought he would. When I had my hands up, he threw the ball out a lot more than I thought he would. He'd get a shot and he'd go up, and I'd put my hand up. I wouldn't foul him, and he'd throw the ball out to his teammates. I thought he was going to shoot a lot more than he did.
behind coach dad door dorm hate imagine kept mail passed percent room stay strong
My dad said his coach was behind him 100 percent and kept encouraging him. My dad would get hate mail slipped under his dorm room door and there would be graffiti on his door. Through all that, he was able to stay strong and he's passed that down to me. I really can't imagine what it would be like to go through something like that.
