Actually, Jacob's father, James Fleming (1773-1857 and his wife, Jane Hulse Fleming (1774-1843), were the first to settle in Point Pleasant. They moved from Shrewsbury to Point Pleasant and opened a tavern and a maritime business. Jacob and Mary Fleming were the first Flemings to live their whole lives in Point Pleasant.
