At the root of problems such as drug addiction and breakdown of community is the breakdown of the family, and in particular the breakdown of marriage. For a long time I have tried to get politicians to accept that this problem is no longer an issue that can be shoved into the box marked 'lifestyle choice'; it must be discussed.

My Catholic background has certainly affected the way I view life and it has become integral to everything I do. It has given me a belief in things like structure, marriage, family, compassion for the poor, the importance of community - but I don't like to wear religion on my sleeve, I prefer to have it integrated into what I do.
