Banks want to stay clear of risky investments, like those that could be tied up in court. They also are sensitive to the public they serve and don't want their parking lots ringed with pickets.

I think to a lot of voters, this kind of thing just reinforces their cynicism. Doug Forrester has campaigned, and is campaigning, in a way to say that 'I'm not like other politicians and I don't do the things they do.' So it cancels out his message.
