I think this year more than ever has proven there are teams that might not get in or just barely get in that can win games. In the past, years ago, I think there were always teams that maybe wanted to get in, but you really knew they couldn't win any games in the tournament if they got in.
Our biggest problem has been defending people. Offensively we played pretty well but it's pretty disappointing at this time of the year that we can't stop people on defense. We're fortunate we've won as many games in our conference as we have playing the defense we have all year.
Some guys win one game once in a while, in a year or two. I don't think anybody's ever won four games in a row by making 'the' play of the game. That's pretty special.
This year has proven that teams that just got in, or maybe didn't get in, can win games.
Our defense was the best it's been all year in the first half and most of the second half. At the end the game just got crazy, I don't know what you'd call that.
We're happy. To be able to play these games early in the year is tremendous for our team. We're just beginning to try to shape our team. We won't be able to do things at the same level now as we will at the end of the year.
We haven't increased the number of teams in a long time and the quality has increased so much, I would have thought it would have been expanded a long time ago. This year more than ever there were teams that barely got in or didn't get in that can win games.
I'm disappointed at this stage of the year that we're not a better defensive team, and that's why we're in the position we're in.
It seemed for a long time there that we made the finals every year and took it for granted. It has been a while.
I think we should expand. I think we're ready for this. The game needs an expansion of the tournament.
I think it's too much a part of our game. We're taking too many threes. I've never been a big fan. But it's just something you have to use. And it's something you really have to defend; guard out to the perimeter a lot more than before.
It had nothing to do with the law or breaking rules. He just had some personal issues he had to deal with. We've never talked about it, and we never will. I'm sure Billy never will either. The bottom line is, we think he's on the right track, and we're pretty confident he'll be available second semester.
I think there should be an expansion. Whatever seems to fit.
We really should be thinking, like, eight or 10 more teams get in.
