himself
He's got himself a backer here. I've made him aware: 'You will find yourself on the field.
depending great months rehab safe weapon
He makes everyone around him better. It's not going to take him months to resurrect that great hand-eye coordination. It's safe to say he's a weapon depending on where he's at with his rehab situation.
acquire draft guy opportunity previous record resume rule seen shows somebody whose year
His record wasn't all that impressive, but I've seen this guy do very well at times. And I think the opportunity to acquire somebody in the Rule 5 draft ... it's not all that often you get somebody whose resume from the previous year shows 141 innings.
advocating approaches ball continuing couple guys pitch smart swung taking time
I'm not advocating taking a ball on the first pitch every time up there. A couple of times (yesterday), the first pitch was there, and we swung at it. But I'm continuing to see these guys take smart approaches to hitting, and that's encouraging.
falls passion players
If our young players weren't developing, if I didn't see passion or energy, then that falls into my boat,
adjustment ball count early forced fourth himself kept opposition order pitch swing
Ian Snell made an adjustment from what he was doing early on and got the ball down to where he could be very effective. He forced the opposition to have to swing the bat. He got himself some early-count outs. As a result, he kept his pitch count in order and was able to go through the fourth inning.
advocating bad good pitch preaching swing time walk weak winning
I'm not advocating we take the first pitch every time we walk up there. But, if you're going to take a swing at a first pitch, have it be a really good swing. If we keep preaching that, there won't have to be a whole lot said if you make a weak out on a marginally bad first pitch. It's not the way you play winning baseball.
evaluation factor personnel
the (player) personnel factor and the evaluation of those players.
caliber chris face opportunity pitcher
When you face a pitcher the caliber of Chris Carpenter, you only get one opportunity like that.
capable defensive routine solid special
We're a solid defensive club. We make routine plays, and we're capable of making special plays.
impact push runners talking
We're talking about a catcher. Squatting, up and down out of the crouch, runners going, boom, the impact of landing. ... It doesn't make any sense to push it.
adjust mike pitching
We'll adjust as we see fit. But Mike won't necessarily be pitching the ninth.
due given role situations
We've given him a substantial role due to some situations that've come up, ... and he's responded very well.
beyond guys looking opportunity
We're looking for 35 or 38 or 39, and this is an opportunity to find out who are those guys beyond the 25.
