enjoy practices trying
I'm trying to make the practices fun. I want them to really enjoy this week.
buying freshmen last means next owning remember selection start team telling three
For the next three years, those freshmen are going to remember that last half-hour (of the selection show) and remember what it's like and what it means and start owning their team and buying into what we're telling them.
approach arizona defensive focus state tough
That's still out there for us. The way for us to approach it is-just focus in on Arizona State right now. They're very tough at home, very dangerous. It's going to have to be a tough defensive game.
four given good great moving spent time together
It's been good for us, having a young team, to have those four hours. Lately, we've been moving from conditioning to more basketball. We spent some time together in the summer, and it's given us a great baseline.
time
It's been time consuming, but in the end, it's worked.
course figured less seem
They just seem to do better when there's less pressure. I figured that out through the course of the year. They just need to go out and play and have fun.
best excited prepare sandy
I want them to be excited about being there, but not satisfied. It's like what (athletic director) Sandy Barbour told them, 'Go in there and participate. Just compete.' We will prepare them the best we can.
came felt game kids plan ready won
The kids really felt like they could have won this game. We came in with a game plan and we felt like we were ready to go.
three tough work
These are going to be tough games. UCLA's got their big three kids. We are going to have to make them work for their shots. We want them to take tough shots.
fun importance kids less maybe seem
The less said the better right now. I don't have to tell the kids the importance of this. They just seem to do better with less pressure. Maybe it's their youth. They want to play and have fun and keep it at that level, and I'm just going to go with that.
number running
I think we're in the running, but I don't want to put a number on it.
added checked cousins experience family occurred seen selection share
It's great! I'll get to see cousins that I haven't seen for years. I don't think I'll have enough tickets, actually. During the selection show, it never occurred to me that we would be going to Pennsylvania. I never checked where we were going. But today, after the fact, I know that being able to share this experience with my family will be an added bonus.
came game intensity leave takes tournament ucla understood win
UCLA understands what it is to play in this tournament and to have to win that first game. They came out with intensity and I don't think we had that intensity. I don't think we understood what it takes to take a game like this and leave it out on the floor.
ball best bring five kids minutes seeing settle step time tournament understanding wait
I think how those kids have reacted to that is the best lesson. It's tournament time and they've got to step it up. When the ball is in the air, they've got to bring everything they can bring and they can't wait five minutes to settle in. I think us going through it, seeing it and understanding it is very valuable.
