If you make a lot of yards and you turn the ball over, then you don't score points, ... So that's a tough lesson to learn. Maybe I'm looking at the good side of it Maybe it's good we get the lesson now. Last year, we started out the season and that's exactly what haunted us -- we turned the ball over and right now we're next to last in the league in terms of giveaways and takeaways.

I'm just happy for him that he is playing well, ... A lot of times up here you go through tough things. At any one time in the NFL, you're going to have a number of players on a team who are going through tough situations. A lot of times the way they handle it is a measure of someone's character. I think that was Mark's situation last year and Patrick's situation now. The way you go through the tough times leads you to improvement and great performance in the future. It's a test of character when you go through that.

It's something we're trying to gain information about and letting them talk and visit and seeing what situations may be out there. And we're doing the same thing. We'll see if there's a fit. It has to make sense for us and make sense for both sides.

I always think it's ultimately my responsibility. I always start with myself. I haven't done a good job if we play a game like that. . . . You tell them, 'Here's the good, here's the bad.' It's a common-sense thing. This was disappointing for all of us.

My impression is that he's very accurate. I think he's going to be a guy that can really roam with the football. He's going to make plays with his feet. I think he has a sense of what the pocket is. He'll slide. He's going to be hard to sack because he's so big. We've seen a lot out of him. Now he needs to play.

This is something that is extremely hard, ... You don't like doing this. I don't. Sometimes you don't chart the circumstances or what happens - it just happens. Certainly it wasn't the plan I had going in, but sometimes plans change, and I think you do the best you can in dealing with it.

Certainly I'm treating this as starting all over again and seeing if we can develop a winner in Washington. It's a tough league. We'll see what happens.
