I think there were just a few things that were unresolved Friday night. Things were about 90 percent of the way there, and I think the weekend allowed us to potentially fill that last gap.

Given what happened to the Central Coast, it's hard to support the current system, but since the last census 3.6 million people have been added. And to turn over the most diverse state in the union to a panel of retired judges, which is a very undiverse group ... I'd support an independent commission, or an independent commission with legislative review, or some other kind of hybrid.

I thought that if something was going to endanger the bill, especially considering the state?s current financial climate, it would be the cost to the state, ... But 50,000 more students means $23 million for California from the federal government.
