It is my hope that by reducing the tax burden on small business owners that we can help them grow their businesses and, in doing so, create jobs.
I have had the privilege of serving as city comptroller, and I lead 750 professionals in the office, have appointed eight deputy comptrollers... no one has criticized my management of these 750 professionals.
I would encourage more development in the boroughs outside of Manhattan as well. I think it's great that this natural emergence has occurred in the lower part of Midtown, but there's tremendous potential in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island as well.
Our Youth Action Team promotes a stronger connection between young people and the community. We seek potential leaders who have the energy and motivation to contribute.
There are lots of issues that Asian Americans share, ... one being the immigrant experience, being relatively recent immigrant arrivals. And Asians also suffer from a perpetual- foreigner syndrome, meaning that you could be a fourth- or fifth-generation Asian American but still somehow it's difficult to believe that you're an American. I get that: First they compliment me on my ability to speak English, and often I get asked, 'Well, where are you from?' and for some reason people refuse to take Flushing for an answer.
Transportation is not just about trains and cars and things on wheels. It's about how people get to and from work and it's the underpinning of economic development, ... I think that point needs to be understood more deeply by all of the candidates.
There is a diversity of thought and philosophy, diversity of languages and dialects, diversity of political spectrum, and there's a diversity of taste for food. I don't label or characterize Jews in any way.
