Unless some crisis triggers action, it usually takes us years to get something passed. And we can only do one thing at a time because we're not allowed to go after things comprehensively. We think it will be helpful to have a dedicated group of legislators who are sitting down and looking at issues in a more intense, concentrated way.

We've got a lot to do. Don't get me wrong. But we've been very pleased with the progress that has been made, and it has been a long time coming. People have been coming here for the last 20 years trying to get to this place.

The insurance and health-care industries are in business to make money. They obviously thought it might be beneficial to them to give to the party with all the changes taking place. Apparently Florida's ... Medicaid recipients didn't get their contributions in on time.

You have to restore the outreach and you have to be in the community.

The poor are not perceived as voters. You can see that's what legislators think when they make these spending decisions.
