Lamine Diackis a Senegalese businessman, sports administrator, and former athlete. He was president of the International Association of Athletics Federationsfrom 1999 to 2015. He is the subject of numerous investigations into corruption during his tenure as president. He was also a member of the International Olympic Committee, and the chairman of the National Water Company "Société Nationale des Eaux" of Senegalfrom 1995 to 2001...

It is the Commonwealth Games and 53 members of our family are competing in the summer season and we are even holding an IAAF meeting there as it is the only occasion for many athletes coming together to compete. (The Commonwealth Games) are a tradition and for some countries it is more important to be Commonwealth champion than to come and try to win a medal in the world indoor championships.

This was a very decisive victory by Berlin and demonstrates that the council was convinced that we are taking our most important competition to the right place. When Berlin lost in their effort to bid for the 2005 edition of these championships, I was delighted to see that they immediately vowed to come back, and they really deserved it this time.
