There was a player on the football team who would struggle to run the laps on the track after practice, and Sam would never leave the track until that player was finished. He was the one who would stay out there and run with him.

Our town has been so gracious, it's been unbelievable. We're so thankful to everybody. Sam is loved by everybody, but he worries more about everybody else, when you'd think he'd be worried about himself.

He was the one that explained that everything would be all right, and that nobody got hurt, calming me down. That's Sam. That's just the way he has always been.

When he was younger, I didn't want him to wrestle because I just didn't like it. Then when he started wrestling, I fell in love with it. I think Sam was born to compete.
