assign based decision federal law necessary premise response school skin students support understanding
I support the premise that you do not make school assignments based on race. My understanding of federal law is that you can't make assignments to school based on skin color. That is the issue. Busing is a necessary operational response to that decision. That's a response to a decision to assign students based on skin color.
assigned based children decision early racial schools skin
From the very beginning, this redistricting has been about racial balance. Should children be assigned to schools based on skin color? That decision was made early on in this process.
advice business came gives law perfect practical school

balance comment diversity good inferior liability minorities minority numbers pattern point premise saying school start students underlying view within
You know, that's racist within itself. I mean, what you're saying is that if you're minority, you can't have a good school if you've got minorities, so you view minorities as a liability that you balance around. That is the underlying racist point when you start with that premise and say we have to balance minority numbers and diversity numbers, your premise that you start out with is that minority students are an inferior student and that's where the racist comment and thought pattern comes from.

I've said all along, I think you can draw a map that will satisfy the majority of the people. I think there's room in the high school to do that. Obviously there is.
policy
I think administration has said, 'Well, we got to do that because that's what the policy says.' I don't think that's what the policy says.
challenges
I think it has logistical challenges in it.
ability academic challenge district maximum priority providing regardless student
My priority is providing the maximum academic challenge for each student in the district regardless of their ability.
discussion turned
You know, the whole discussion has been turned around.
benefits child couple financial gets overall principle salary situations
While the overall principle is sound, the financial implications are tremendous. One child can end up costing you $60,000 for a teacher's salary and benefits and another classroom. You have a couple of those situations and it gets very, very expensive.
buying continue costs fall logic reason technology
The reason for that logic and rationale is that technology costs continue to fall every year, and as a result, you get more buying power.
against bothers scenario west
The thing that bothers me in this whole scenario is that it has set one part of west Cobb against another, and that's a shame.
asked board map members support
I've asked board members for their support of Map 3.
although hear others preference
That's my preference and it always has been, although I wanted to hear what others had to say.
