Our computer basics and Web basics series continue to be most popular, but we've also had good attendance at some of our more subject-oriented classes, everything from finding health information to conducting genealogical research.

The library board was wrestling with the recent court decision on CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act) which restricted federal funding for Internet access to libraries that refused to use filtering software. The board preferred education over filters to protect children from the dangers that exist on the Internet because filtering software is known for filtering out important health and medical sites.

We're absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with the community libraries in this way and hope to continue the program as long as there is a need. Jessica has graduated and left the area, but I am indebted to my new graduate assistant, Sally Quiroz, who has been helping manage the program (and teaching most of the Spanish classes), and the librarians and graduate students in library science who volunteer their time to help teach the classes.
