Mark Allan Richtis an American football coach and former player. He currently is the head coach at the University of Miami, his alma mater. He was the head football coach at the University of Georgia from 2001-2015. Richt played college football as a quarterback at University of Miami. It was not an indication of a changing of the guard. I just wanted to see what those guys could do.
It's come a little faster this year than normal. We just recruit real hard and if they're ready to commit, we'll take their commitment. We're real pleased to do that with the guys we've offered.
I'm proud of our guys. You always wonder how your team is going to react to some adversity. We were losing at the half, but the guys did a great job of doing what they had to do to win. Some people may not think it's a beautiful victory, but it is to me.
I think his goal is to be a coach and he'll be able to do some things as a student assistant coach that a lot of people can't do. He'll get a couple of years of training that a lot of guys have to wait for until after they graduate.
I am very excited about what's going to happen with D.J. Shockley, ... He is a great football player. I'm just happy for him. You know, guys can mope about the situation, or guys can decide, 'I just don't want to be here,' and take off. He didn't do that. Not only did he stay, but he thrived at Georgia. He is in great shape academically, and he has won community service awards for us. He's just a fantastic guy, a great man. He's probably the most respected player we have on the team.
Defensive guys can be, 'What the heck,' ... There was none of that. (From) coaches, there was none of that.
Guys like D. J. make this business worthwhile.
It wasn't as relaxing of a summer I would like. I hate it when a guy misbehaves. I hate when my own child misbehaves. The bottom line is we're dealing with kids and we're dealing with human beings, and they are going to make mistakes. That's inevitable.
Our guys did a great job of doing what we had to do to win. It certainly wasn't a very beautiful victory, but to me it is.
I'm real excited about this class, mainly because of the numbers. We really covered every major position other than the kickers. If these guys unite as a team, behave like they should and work hard like they should, we should be something special three or four years down the road.
