trying stronger
I am just trying to get biblically stronger.
want olympics china
Seeing the Olympics come to China made me want to get more involved.
attitude winning past
I feel like I have as good a shot as anybody out there and I have gotten close in the past, so why not have the attitude that I can come out and play great tennis and maybe even win this tournament.
cnn events ifs
For me, at the French Open, if I wasn't playing my match I was glued to CNN watching the events unfold.
smile winning thinking
For me, I think the Lord wanted me to win to put a smile on Chinese people's faces.
spaniards knows
All of the Spaniards are really talented. I don't know what they eat.
want way results
You know, I feel like if I don't change something, then the results maybe are going to continue the way that they have. That for me is not something that I want to really be a part of.
distance rich-or-poor blue
I really beleive that if the political leaders of the world could see their planet from a distance of, let's say 100,000 miles, their outlook wouls be fundamentally changed . The all-important border would be invisible, that noisy arguement suddenly silenced. The tiny globe would continue to turn, serenely ignoring its subdivisions, presenting a unified facade that would cry out for unified understanding, for homogeneous treatment. The earth must become as it appears: blue and white, not capitalist or communist; blue and white, not rich or poor; blue and white, not envious or envied.
true-power our-world profound
The purpose of history is to explain the present - to say why the world around us is the way it is. History tells us what is important in our world, and how it came to be. It tells us what is to be ignored, or discarded. That is true power - profound power. The power to define a whole society.
technology choices alive
Morality must keep up with technology because if a person is faced with the choice of being moral and dead or immoral and alive, they'll choose life everytime.
hands boredom disease
In other centuries, human beings wanted to be saved, or improved, or freed, or educated. But in our century, they want to be entertained. The great fear is not of disease or death, but of boredom. A sense of time on our hands, a sense of nothing to do. A sense that we are not amused.
disease fascination computer
This fascination with computer models is something I understand very well. Richard Feynmann called it a disease. I fear he is right.
effort enormous theory
It takes enormous effort to avoid all theories and just see.
religious origin-of-life other-worlds
A wonderful area for speculative academic work is the unknowable. These days religious subjects are in disfavor, but there are still plenty of good topics. The nature of consciousness, the workings of the brain, the origin of aggression, the origin of language, the origin of life on earth, SETI and life on other worlds...this is all great stuff. Wonderful stuff. You can argue it interminably. But it can't be contradicted, because nobody knows the answer to any of these topics.
