That's what you look for in young players, is can they elevate their game, and can they improve and are they making progress.
That's not a luxury that we have right now in this particular draft.
That's not something I'm interested in doing right now. I'm very happy to be the coach here, ... We're looking forward to the challenges of making LSU a dominant program in the future.
This game is really about our players and not about me going back to Baton Rouge,
They double-covered him a couple of times, actually, so it was the right choice not to throw it to him. But he's a guy we need to have involved in the offense.
There are no comparisons that need to be made. Both guys are outstanding players.
We thought we could bat a lot of balls on him, and have some players who are athletes, ... When you're pressuring, getting as close to the quarterback as you are, that's got to be an advantage for you. You can't just cover on the back end.
There is no doubt that quarterback is a critical position in every organization. That really has to be something that we look at to make a good assessment on how we move ahead at that position. We like all of the quarterbacks that we have here, but if we get an opportunity to improve the quality at that position, we most certainly will.
We have a sense of urgency about trying to get him ready, but we're not going to rush him and put him in a position where it's not going to be something he can have success at.
We have another one, Sammy (Morris). I think that's something we've always looked at as a two-starter position, the running-back position. That has been my history as a coach, to always have two guys at that position that can play and share the load.
Part of the things that we are doing is because of his unique abilities. I would say that if Jason Taylor had played in a 3-4 system somewhere, he would have been a Hall of Fame outside linebacker. He's smart, and he's got great instincts to learn things better than I ever hoped. It gives us an opportunity to move him around and use him in a lot of different ways.
We need a little time to figure that out. We're going to take it from where it is and build for 12 games.
I would hope that self-indulgence is not something that we're concerned about at this point. Personal ego has to be given up a little bit out of respect for one another.
We have total faith, trust and confidence in the guy. The guy has a tremendous amount of ability. He's going to be a long snapper for a long time in this league so the question is do we want to take the time to develop that or do we want to let him go snap for somebody else?
