I think it's a tremendous accomplishment. I made it clear to the guys after the fact,
I think the guys that have come back now have found that they have enjoyed the heck out of it. After the grind of the NFL, the college game seems a little more different and wholesome and spirited.
I really need to see that play again. I didn't even get a chance to look at the replay, but it looked like a phenomenal play. It looked like he got stuck up in a pile of guys and he was able to spin around and get back out to get going. It was just a terrific play by an amazing football player.
You could tell early that we could do what we did. We've been in that situation so much, our guys are familiar with the feeling.
He's done it with a style. He's taken on all comers, ... He's done all of the things you would hope a guy would do with a program. I think it's a great marriage.
Right now we're rolling guys through (the secondary) and counting on Terrell Thomas to come back at full speed, but the other guys are battling. We have to see who's going to be most productive.
That was a phenomenal night by one guy. I don't want to take anything away from their football team but that guy is an extraordinary player.
Is it like the Wizard of Oz? A guy behind the curtain with a megaphone or something?
This is not the same football team, this is not the same offense, ... The players are the same, but they are performing at a higher level because of the guy who is running the thing.
One of my favorite guys was Ronnie Lott. I had and have such tremendous respect for him that when I finally got a chance to coach him, I couldn't get enough of uncovering and understanding what made him tick and what made him be who he was.
This is the kind of class where you're going to feel the impact immediately. They can handle the pressure of playing early. I think a dozen of these guys will be a factor. There are really good football players who are going to be called on right away.
The thing I like is that I'm in charge of everything, so I can structure things the way I like. I get to wear all the hats. There are a few guys in the NFL who have that opportunity, but not many. You basically have to win a Super Bowl.
I'm telling you what I'm telling you. I will go wherever I have to go, listen to whoever I have to listen to. Whether it's a player or it's a coach. Whether it's a corporate leader, a political leader or it's the guy sitting on the corner. It doesn't matter to me; I'm on, I'll go wherever.
That last sequence, I didn't want to go to overtime. I thought they'd have an advantage. I told my guys on the last drive we were going for it, ... We had a remarkable opportunity on the inches line. In that sequence, Matt has the option to sneak it or spike it. I pointed to Matt and said, 'Go for the win.'
