I feel comfortable right now. I just need to go out and pitch accordingly, get my innings in, get my arm strength, remain comfortable with my mechanics and then hopefully take it right into opening day.
Jason was a one-man wrecking crew. Jason pretty much did it all himself today. I'm glad to see he's back on track and picked up where he left off in the second half of the season. It's a real blessing to have someone like that in the lineup.
The more consistent I get, the more comfortable I get, it's fun to go out there and be that locked into a game. It's been a while. I've pitched some good games this year where I haven't been locked in. That's the ingredient I've been missing.
Mechanically, I've struggled all year long with my arm angle, with my velocity and my effectiveness. That stems from poor mechanics. Tonight, I felt really comfortable on the mound.
I've been at this a long time, and it's time to sort of step back. I've been doing this for 34 years. When you're looking at the watch to see what time to end practice, that's pretty much an indication that it's time to sort of kick back.
That, and the biggest thing is I've missed my mechanics, too.
That's probably more than I wanted to throw in four innings. But the velocity on my fastball increased, and that's a good sign. My mechanics were a little better, too.
That's a start, but there are millions of Chinese students who are studying English right now. If we're going to compete effectively, we have to increase our focus on global communication.
It's been a long year, a frustrating year. But if that's been the problem, I'll continue to work hard on it. To pitch the way I did today, that's the reason why, I believe. Having inconsistent mechanics resulted in inconsistent velocity and inconsistent arm angles. The bottom line is, I've been inconsistent on the mound.
I think every pitcher pitches a little differently when they get out of Colorado, ... He's a different pitcher here and we're really getting the benefits of his performances. He's pitching the way he always knew he could out of that environment.
I do acknowledge that I have a daughter from a previous relationship, which ended years before my marriage. I have fully financially supported her and have made every effort to protect her privacy.
It's real tight right now. It's hard to move. I'm going to continue to get treatment. Hopefully, it will be day to day.
That's another reason why I'm all fired up about this year. We're a veteran team for the most part, but we have a lot of young guys who are going to help us, and we can help them.
I didn't feel like I had a lot of breathing room. I felt like I was walking on eggshells.
