The role of the church and the government are fundamentally different. The church must always show compassion - always.
Churches know more about poverty than any government will ever know, because we're dealing with the poor every day.
Many of the liberal people tend to say, "Well, the solution is government." I couldn't disagree more. The government cannot solve the problem and never will. I believe the solution to these problems is the church and that the church should be responsible for caring for the sick, and assisting the poor, and educating.
The Bible says that God puts government on earth to punish evildoers. Not good-doers. Evildoers.
The Bible says that governments can do things that I'm not supposed to do as an individual. God has not put the law in my hands. He's put the law in the government's hands.
I happen to agree with many of the liberal emphasis on compassion, justice and equality. I just disagree that it's the government's role to provide everything.
I think everybody has brokenness. There's no doubt about that. We live in a fallen world. This is not heaven. Everybody has scars. Everybody is hurting somewhere, I guarantee you that. Everyone has a hidden hurt.
Our goal is to stay within the boundaries of God's plan for us.
I'm Southern Baptist, our church is Southern Baptist, and we cooperate in SBC missions support at every level,
It basically means the bar closes and everything you've got invested is lost.
My ultimate goal... is for you to live the life you're intended to live.
Most people don't realize, I really have no faith in politics. I'm not a politician. If I thought you could change human hearts by laws, I would, but I don't.
The first thing that we need to say is that God is grieving, too. Uh, a lot of people try to make it sound like 'well everything that happens is God's will.' That's nonsense. God allows everything, but God does not choose everything.
The death of my own son has made me more sensitive. It's made me more compassionate.
