He had a disturbed night but he is still very alert, very sedated on the ventilator. He remains critically ill but fairly stable.

I'm not confident about a recovery, I've never said I'm confident about a recovery because he is so generally ill and so can be affected so easily by any infection, any setback, ... But he is better than he was yesterday.
