It was no secret when I had several chances to leave as a free agent, I never chose to go anywhere, ... I never envisioned there was any place better to play than in New York. I know it's a hard job, and a lot rides on that job, but I've got a lot of help around here. There's so much pitching talent, like Mel and Kerrigan, the guys that are in here. They're all going to help you. They're not going to overload you and let you sink by yourself.

bullpen complete crack five games guys learn pitchers pitching rely secret starters starting step successful throw together
It's not a secret that pitchers don't throw a lot of complete games anymore, ... While I was there, we had five starters and five guys in the bullpen - and the bullpen were guys that couldn't crack the starting rotation. ... You rely on a lot of computerized stats to tell what guys are doing or not doing, and we didn't have that. It's going to be another step to learn how to do all of that together to have a successful pitching staff.

Coming inside is a big part of his repertoire. He just couldn't get it in there.
