During the last 20 minutes of negotiation, he started responding. He had had the firearm to his head or in his mouth the whole time, but he moved it to his lap. We continued to speak with him, trying to coax him out. He finally complied without incident.

When we conducted a further investigation of his so-called hospitalization over the weekend, the indication was they didn't think anything was wrong with him and they were trying to get him out the door.
